Director of Finance

Mandarin Oriental, Maldives is looking for a Director of Finance.

A strategic finance leadership role for an ultra-luxury private island resort – responsible for full financial stewardship, controls, reporting excellence, team leadership, and partnering with hotel leadership to drive performance and protect the asset.

The Role

We are seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Director of Finance to lead all financial operations of the resort. This role is critical in ensuring financial integrity, driving performance, and supporting key business decisions through accurate reporting and strong internal controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and enforcement of financial policies, controls, and accounting procedures in line with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.
• Deliver timely and insightful financial reports to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Drive innovation by improving financial systems, processes, and efficiencies.
• Partner closely with the General Manager and leadership team to enhance overall business performance.
• Identify opportunities to improve profitability through analysis, reporting, and performance tracking.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis, ensuring realistic and achievable targets.
• Safeguard company assets through robust internal controls and risk management practices.
• Manage cash flow, working capital, and financial resources effectively.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including audits and financial reporting obligations.
• Lead internal and external audit processes and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
• Oversee credit policies, collections, and financial risk management.
• Support talent development within the finance team through coaching and performance management.
• Act as Data Protection Officer and ensure compliance with GDPR and related audits.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Qualifications

• Extensive experience as a Financial Controller or similar senior finance role within the hospitality industry, preferably in luxury environments.
• Strong background in financial operations including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; Master’s degree or MBA is highly desirable.
• Professional certifications and continuous learning in finance are advantageous.

Technical Competencies

• Deep understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and internal controls.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems (e.g., Opera, SUN, Delphi, Hyperion, Micros).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.

• Proven ability to lead, develop, and inspire finance teams.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, pre-opening luxury environment.
