About the Opportunity
Marsa Malaz Kempinski, The Pearl – Doha is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead its Finance & Accounting operations and provide strategic financial direction. Located on its own secluded island at The Pearl – Doha, Marsa Malaz Kempinski combines European elegance with traditional Arabian architecture. The luxury hotel features 281 rooms, including 69 suites, two Presidential suites, and two Royal suites.
The Role
The Financial Controller serves as the financial backbone of the hotel, responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring strong fiscal discipline, safeguarding hotel assets, and providing strategic financial leadership.
Working closely with the General Manager, hotel leadership, and corporate stakeholders, the Financial Controller will drive profitability, maintain compliance with accounting standards including USALI, and ensure effective financial controls across all areas of hotel operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reports.
• Lead the annual budgeting process and prepare accurate financial forecasts in collaboration with hotel departments.
• Analyze financial performance, identify variances between actual results and budgets/forecasts, and provide recommendations for improvement.
• Ensure compliance with the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI).
• Provide meaningful financial insights to support strategic business decisions.
Internal Controls & Compliance
• Develop, implement, and monitor strong internal control procedures to safeguard hotel assets.
• Oversee internal, external, and government audit processes.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, taxation requirements, licensing laws, and corporate financial policies.
• Maintain high standards of financial integrity, transparency, and accountability.
Operational & Cash Flow Management
• Manage and optimize cash flow, working capital, and capital expenditure (CapEx) planning.
• Supervise daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Income Audit, Night Audit, and Payroll functions.
• Collaborate with Purchasing and Food & Beverage teams to strengthen inventory controls, food cost management, and waste reduction initiatives.
• Monitor financial processes to improve operational efficiency and profitability.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration
• Lead, coach, and develop the hotel finance and accounting team.
• Partner with the General Manager and Department Heads to improve revenue performance and control operational costs.
• Present financial reports, business analysis, and performance updates to hotel owners, investors, and corporate executives.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and financial excellence within the department.
Candidate Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, or a related discipline.
• MBA, CPA, CMA, or other professional finance qualifications are highly preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive financial management experience, including at least 2–3 years as a Financial Controller or Assistant Financial Controller within the hospitality industry.
• Strong knowledge of hotel finance operations, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Excellent understanding of USALI and hospitality accounting practices.
• Experience with hotel systems such as Opera PMS and Micros POS.
• Advanced knowledge of accounting systems such as SUN Systems, Sage, QuickBooks, and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information.
• High level of integrity, leadership ability, and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
